Newport, Shropshire

Newport is a market town in Shropshire. The Normans planned a New Town called Novo Burgo between the older settlements of Edgmond and Plesc. The first market charter was granted by Henry I. The main street follows the Norman design, giving it a distinctive, long, wide High Street. The Puleston Cross is a 14th-century butter cross standing near to the Church of St Nicholas. The town is within the council area of Telford and Wrekin.
