New Radnor, Radnorshire

New Radnor (Welsh: Maesyfed) is a village in Radnorshire, and gives the county its name. It lies by the Radnor Forest. The village is said to have been built to replace Old Radnor perhaps as early as 1065, and it became a planned mediæval town, with streets laid out in a grid pattern. The town is still surrounded by considerable remains of the town walls which are especially visible to the south-west. It is within the council area of Powys.
