New Milton, Hampshire
New Milton is a town in the south-west of Hampshire. The town developed around the railway station, originally called Milton Station, which opened in 1888 to serve the nearby villages of Milton (now known as "Old Milton") and Barton-on-Sea. The name "New Milton" is reputed to have first been used around 1895 by the sub post office in the developing urban area around the station, then applied to the station from 1897 and then to the developing town. The red brick New Milton Water Tower dates from 1900. The town is within the council area of New Forest (Hampshire).
