New Eltham, Kent

New Eltham is suburban village in Kent. The area developed around that had been the hamlet of Pope Street, following the opening of Pope Street railway station in 1878. The station was renamed New Eltham in 1886, presumably at the request of developers who saw 'New Eltham' as a more marketable name. It is within the council area of Greenwich.
