Nether Hall, Essex

Nether Hall is a manorial site at Roydon, Essex. The manor was established during the mediæval period. Nether Hall contained two manor houses built in the mid-15th century and occupied by the Colte family. The main one was built of brick, featured a three-storey brick gatehouse and was surrounded by a curtain wall and moat. The second was a timber-framed structure adjacent to the first. The brick house was demolished in the 1770s though the ruined gatehouse still stands. The timber-framed manor house has survived. The site is within the council area of Epping Forest (Essex).
