Neale's Barrow, Wiltshire
Neale's Barrow is a prehistoric bowl barrow situated on the Wilton estate in Wiltshire. It is situated on the upper north facing slopes of a wide ridge overlooking the distant valley of the River Nadder. The barrow survives as an 60ft-diameter circular mound standing up to 3ft high surrounded by a 6ft wide and up to 1ft deep quarry ditch from which the construction material was derived. The barrow was named as ‘Ruh beorh’ in a Saxon charter of AD 826 and as ‘Eangylbe beorh’ in a further charter. It was first given the name of Neales Barrow (no apostrophe) in a survey of 1570. It is within the council area of Wiltshire.
