Nant-y-Bwch, Brecknockshire / Monmouthshire
Nant-y-Bwch is a village at the head of the Sirhowy Valley which is primarily in Brecknockshire but partly in Monmouthshire. Nant-y-Bwch railway station opened in 1864 (as Tredegar station) but renamed Nant-y-Bwch in 1868 from the local brook and farm. The village developed around the station. The station closed in 1958 and the construction and later expansion of the Heads of the Valleys Road from the 1960s has split the village into two parts. The Tynewydd and Waundeg neighbourhoods were built in the post-war years to the north and west of Nant-y-Bwch but are often now considered separate neighbourhoods. The village is within the council area of Blaenau Gwent.
