Moyry Castle, Armagh
Moyry Castle is a 17th-century three-storey tower house and bawn, overlooking the strategically important Moyry Pass (Bealach an Mhaighre), the Gap of the North, in the townland of Carrickbroad, County Armagh. The small tower has rounded corners, gun-loops and a machicolation over the door. Fragmentary remains of the bawn wall survive. The castle was reputedly built in 1601 to secure the pass during Mountjoy’s northern campaign. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down.
