Moygashel, Tyrone

Moygashel is a village in County Tyrone. It is within the townland of Moygashel, in the civil parish of Clonfeacle. The village developed around the linen industry. Thomas Boardman, a Quaker, erected a bleach green here in 1781 and in 1785 a ‘bark’ mill with bleach green and primitive dye works had been established. In 1860 Jacob Orr converted the site to a flax mill, which burned down in 1868. In 1876 Robert Stevenson rebuilt the mill, adding weaving and beetling sheds and houses for his employees. Stevenson’s became a limited company in 1907. The mills closed in the late 20th century. In the early 21st century, the site was redeveloped as The Linen Green, a major retail site. The village is within the council area of Mid Ulster.
