Movilla Abbey, Down
Movilla Abbey is a ruined former abbey in the townland of Movilla, in the town of Newtownards, County Down. The abbey was founded by St Finian in the 6th century. Plundered by Vikings in 824, it was refounded in the 12th century as an abbey of Augustinian Canons dedicated to St Malachy, surviving until suppressed in the 1540s. The standing ruins are those of the 15th-century Augustinian church. The monument is in the care of the Department for Communities. The monument is within the council area of Ards and North Down.
