Movilla, Antrim
Movilla is a suburban area in the east of Newtownards, County Down. It is within the townland of Movilla, in the civil parish of Newtownards. St Finian founded Movilla Abbey in AD 540. It was re-established as an Augustinian abbey in 1135 and dissolved in 1542. The ruined 15th century abbey church stands in Movilla Cemetery. Movila townland remained largely rural until the mid 20th century, since when it has seen significant suburban development as Newtownards has spread eastwards.
