Mourne Mountains, Down

The Mourne Mountains (aka The Mournes) is a range of mountains in the south of County Down. It is a predominantly granite mountain range. It includes include the highest mountain in County Down, Slieve Donard (2,789ft). The Mourne Wall crosses fifteen of the summits and was built (1904-1920) to enclose the catchment basin of the Silent Valley and Ben Crom reservoirs. The mountain range lies within the council area of Newry, Mourne and Down/i>.
