Mottingham, Kent

Mottingham is a suburban village in Kent. The earliest records of Mottingham, as 'Modingahema', are from AD 862 during the Anglo-Saxon era. It remained a rural hamlet until the opening of Mottingham Station (originally Eltham Station) in 1866, after which it saw some limited development. Large-scale suburban development to the south of the village occurred from the 1930s. Eltham College, an independent school, has been housed since 1912 in the former Fairy Hall. It is within the council area of Bromley.
