Mote Hill, Yorkshire
Mote Hill is a mediæval moated site near Ryther, Yorkshire, in the West Riding. The moated site and adjacent fishponds are situated on level ground at the northern edge of the floodplain of the River Wharfe. The surrounding land was cultivated in the mediæval period and extensive ridge-and-furrow earthworks remain. The moated site is roughly triangular in plan, surrounded by a ditch 38ft wide and up to 7ft deep. A stream feeds into the moat via a leat. The site is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
