Morpeth, Northumberland
Morpeth is a historic market town in Northumberland. The town grew up at an important crossing point of the River Wansbeck. Morpeth Castle stands on a hill to the town's south. The town's history is celebrated in the annual Northumbrian Gathering. The ruins of Newminster Abbey lie just west of the town. The town is within the council area of Northumberland.
