Morden, Surrey
Morden is a suburban town in Surrey. Morden was a Saxon manor, later a parish. The parish developed around two centres: St Lawrence church in the south-west and Morden Hall in the north-east. The parish remained largely rural until the opening of Morden tube station in 1926, after which it rapidly saw large-scale suburban development. From 1913-1965, for local government purposes, the ancient parishes of Merton and Morden were the basis of Merton and Morden urban district. Morden Hall (1770s) and its parkland are now managed by the National Trust. St Lawrence Church (1636) overlooks Morden Park and its 18th century country house. The town is within the council area of Merton.
