Milltown, Tyrone

Milltown is a hamlet, lying on the Cavanlee River in County Tyrone. It lies within the townlands of Milltown and Cavanalee, in the civil parish of Camus. The hamlet developed around corn mills on the Cavanlee River. Milltown House was constructed around 1836 for Major John Humphreys and designed by William Vitruvius Morrison. Irish hymn-writer and poet, Cecil Frances Alexander lived in the house from age 15. It later became the site of Strabane Grammar School and later a Sixth Form College, the latter vacating the site in 2020. The area is within the council area of Derry City and Strabane.
