Milltown, Antrim
Milltown is a former industrial hamlet that is now a suburban area in the south of Ballymoney, County Antrim. It is within the townlands of Millquarter and Ballybrakes, in the civil parish of Ballymoney. The hamlet existed around a corn mill and mill race to the south of Ballymoney River by the early 19th century. The hamlet grew during the early 20th century with the corn mill becoming a flax mill. From the mid 20th century, further industry developed west of the hamlet in Ballybrakes townland, with Ballybrakes Industrial Estate being developed from mid-1960s. Milling operations ceased in the 1970s and the area around and to the south of Milltown was developed for suburban housing from the same period. Several of the houses of the hamlet survive, as does the industrial land west of the former hamlet. The area is within the council area of Causeway Coast and Glens.
