Mill Meads, Essex
Mill Meads is an urban area to the south of Stratford, Essex. Lying among the creeks and channels of the River Lea, Mill Meads is a historic industrial district, the tidal mills of the area dating back to before Domesday. The area is now occupied by residential developments, TV studios and a sewage works. Three Mills island actually now contains two historic mills. The House Mill, dating from 1776, is the largest tidal mill in the world. It lies adjacent to the Essex-Middlesex border. The area is within the council area of Newham.
