Middlewich, Cheshire
Middlewich is a market town in Cheshire. Middlewich was founded by the Romans who named it name Salinae because of its surrounding salt deposits. In Domesday Middlewich is spelt "Mildestvich". Along with Nantwich and Northwich, it is one of the famous salt towns of Cheshire, the "Cheshire wiches". Middlewich lies at the confluence of the Dane, Croco and Wheelock rivers. Three canals, the Shropshire Union, Trent and Mersey, and the Wardle Canal, pass through the town. The church of St Michael and All Angels dates back to the 12th century. The town is within the council area of Cheshire East.
