Middleton Mount, Norfolk
Middleton Mount is the remains of a Norman motte-and-bailey castle in Middleton, Norfolk. The motte is visible as a steep-sided, sub-circular mound, approximately 150ft in diameter and 33ft high. It is encircled by a ditch about 35ft wide which remains open to a depth of about 8ft. At the top of the mound is a platform on which would have stood a timber tower. It may date from the time of the civil war between King Stephen and the Empress Maud. The monument is within the council area of King's Lynn and West Norfolk (Norfolk).
