Middleham, Yorkshire
Middleham is a small market town in Yorkshire, in the North Riding. It lies in Wensleydale, on the north-facing side of the valley. There has been a settlement there since Roman times. It is recorded in the Domesday Book as "Medelai". Middleham Castle, built from 1190, was the childhood home of King Richard III. The town is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
