Mexborough, Yorkshire

Mexborough is a town in Yorkshire, in the West Riding. It lies on the River Don close to where it joins the River Dearne. The town is located at the north-eastern end of an ancient dyke known as the Roman Ridge, though the exact origins of the dyke are not known. The town grew from the 18th century based on the mining, quarrying, brick-making and ceramics industries. It is the birthplace of actors Brian Blessed and Keith Barron. The town is within the council area of Doncaster.
