Melmount, Tyrone

Melmount is a southern suburb of Strabane, lying south of the River Mourne in County Tyrone. It lies within the townland of Ballycolman, in the civil parish of Urney. Melmount is roughly the suburban part of Ballycolman townland to the west of Melmount Road. The area was formerly the location of Melmount House, the name being applied to the wider area once it was developed from the 1960s. The Roman Catholic parish of Melmount was established in 1970 and a new St Mary's Church opened in 1971 on the former site of Melmount House. The area is within the council area of Derry City and Strabane.
