Meersbrook, Derbyshire

Meersbrook is a suburban area on the south bank of the Meers Brook in Derbyshire, though forming a southern suburb of Sheffield. The Meers Brook ('boundary brook'), which forms the Derbyshire-Yorkshire border here, once formed the Northumbria-Mercia border. The suburban area was developed from the early 20th century, mostly on land which had been part of the Meersbrook Park. Much of Meersbrook Park remains, set on a steep hillside, offers a stunning panoramic view over Sheffield to the north. Meersbrook House was built around 1760 by Benjamin Roebuck a Sheffield merchant. The area is within the council area of Sheffield.
