Mayfair, Middlesex
Mayfair is a district in Westminster, Middlesex, forming part of the West End of London. It is famous for being one of the most expensive districts in the world. The area was developed by the Grosvenor family from the 1660s, the entire area being built up with housing for the upper classes by the end of the 18th century. Mayfair was built around three major squares: Hanover Square (c.1720), Grosvenor Square (1720s) and Berkeley Square (1730s). St George's, Hanover Square (1725) has, from its early days, been a fashionable place for society weddings, including that of future US President Theodore Roosevelt to Edith Carow in 1886. Mayfair is within the council area of Westminster.
