Masham is a town in Yorkshire, in the North Riding. It lies in Wensleydale, on the western bank of the River Ure. Masham developed during the Middle Ages based on the milling, mining, cloth making and tanning industries. It received a market charter in 1251. The town has a large market place, tightly bordered on its south and west sides by ranges of two- and three-storey buildings. To the south-east stands St Mary's Church with its large churchyard. The town is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
