Maryport, Cumberland

Maryport is a town in Cumberland, standing on the coast at the uttermost of the Solway Firth. The first town here was first established by the Romans as the fort of Alauna in around AD 122. The present town was founded by landowner Humphrey Senhouse in 1749 and named after his wife, Mary. Maryport is within the council area of Cumberland.
