Marks Gate, Essex
Marks Gate is a suburban village in Essex. Marks Gate developed as a hamlet on the southern edge of Hainault Forest, the name referring to an entrance or gate into the Forest close to Marks Hall (demolished 1808). Some 20th century suburban development had led to the nearby hamlets of Roselane Gate and Padnall Corner now usually being considered to be part of Marks Gate. The village has largely retained its rural setting. The area is within the council area of Barking and Dagenham.
