Margam Castle, Glamorgan
Margam Castle is a late Georgian country house at Margam, Glamorgan. It was designed by Thomas Hopper for Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot. The castle was constructed in a Tudor Revival style from 1830 to 1835. The Margam estate had previously been the site of Margam Abbey. Following the Dissolution the estate was bought by Sir Rice Mansel whose descendants built a substantial Tudor mansion in the park. This was demolished in the 18th century. Christopher Rice Mansel Talbot, enriched by the development of Port Talbot, re-established Margam as his main seat from 1830. The house is within the council area of Neath Port Talbot.
