Maldon Battlefield, Essex
Maldon Battlefield is the site of the Battle of Maldon AD 991, beside the River Blackwater in Essex. Earl Byrhtnoth and his thegns led the English against a Viking invasion. It ended in an Anglo-Saxon defeat. The battle is immortalised in an Old English Poem, "The Battle of Maldon". The site is within the council area of Maldon (Essex).
