Maidenhead, Berkshire

Maidenhead is a market town in Berkshire, which grew up following the erected of a bridge across the Thames in 1280 and the diverting of the Great West Road across it. The current bridge dates from 1777. Charles I met his children for the last time before his execution at the Greyhound Inn. By Edwardian times, Boulter's Lock has become a favoured resort especially on Ascot Sunday. The town is within the council area of Windsor and Maidenhead.
