Maiden Castle, Cumberland

Maiden Castle is a univallate prehistoric defended enclosure in Cumberland. It is thought to have been an Iron Age farmstead and is located on a plateau on the south-east facing slopes of Soulby Fell. It includes a roughly circular enclosure defended by a rampart, ditch and counterscarp bank. The enclosure measures just over 200 feet in diameter. It is within the council area of Westmorland and Furness.
