Maida Hill, Middlesex
Maida Hill is a suburban area between Westbourne Green and Maida Vale in the north-west of Paddington, Middlesex. The name originally applied to the stretch of Watling Street (Edgware Road) on which the Hero of Maida public house opened c.1807 (the hero being Major-General Sir John Stuart who led British troops to victory over the French on the plain of Maida). This area came to be known as Maida Vale and the Maida Hill name has come to be associated with the area around St Peter Church to the west. It is within the council area of Westminster.
