Maghon, Armagh
Maghon (aka Mahon) is a former village that is now a southern suburb of Portadown, County Armagh. It is within the townlands of Maghon and Drumnakelly, in the civil parish of Drumcree. The village of Maghon lay along the north-south road through Maghon townland (now the A27), the village extending south along the road into Drumnakelly townland. The late 20th century has seen the village effectively become a southern suburb of Portadown with a large area in the north-east of Maghon townland becoming the Mahon Industrial Estate and the north-west of the townland being developed as a suburban housing estate. The part of the village in Drumnakelly townland has also seen significant suburban development. Mahon Methodist Church, opened in 1828, is one of the few surviving buildings from the former village. The area is within the council area of Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon.
