Lower Somerton, Somerset
Lower Somerton is a hamlet that lies on the southern fringes of Somerton, Somerset. The hamlet developed around the mill stream, a channel of the River Cary, which fed the Somerton Flour Mills. Although it is now essentially contiguous with Somerton, it retains a distinct rural identity. The hamlet is known for its attractive local Blue Lias stone architecture. It is home to several significant buildings including the early 19th-century Vale House. Somerton Court is a 17th-century manor house also built in Blue Lias stone. The hamlet is within the council area of Somerset.
