Low Fell, Durham

Low Fell is a suburb of Gateshead, County Durham. The enclosure of Gateshead Fell in 1809 was followed by the construction of a new road (Durham Road) across the area. Low Fell developed around the new road, attracting rich industrialists from Gateshead and Newcastle upon Tyne. During the 20th century the village eventually became a suburban part of Gateshead though it retains a distinct village feel. It is within the council area of Gateshead.
