MenuLouth Park Abbey, Lincolnshire
Louth Park Abbey is a ruined Cisterican abbey near Keddington, Lincolnshire, in the Parts of Lindsey. It was founded in 1139 by the Bishop Alexander of Lincoln as a daughter-house of Fountains Abbey, Yorkshire. The abbey was situated on an elevated area of ground, south of the River Lud. By 1291, the abbey housed 66 monks and 91 conversi, or lay brothers. The abbey's fortunes declined and there were only ten monks with Abbot George Walker when it was dissolved in 1536. The surviving remains comprise extensive earthworks, and, of the church, the ruined north and south chancel walls, and the base of a nave pillar. The monument is within the council area of East Lindsey (Lincolnshire).
