Loughbrickland, Down

Loughbrickland is a village in County Down. It lies at the intersection of the townlands of Drumnahare, Bovennett and Coolnacran, in the civil parish of Aghaderg. The village was laid out by Sir Marmaduke Whitechurch after Elizabeth I granted him the lands of the area. The estate passed to the Whyte family in the 18th century, who built Loughbrickland House and further developed the village. St Mellans Church (C of I), the Aghaderg parish church, dates from around 1690 with 19th century Gothic style alterations and a tower added in 1821.
