Loose Howe, Yorkshire

Loose Howe is a prehistoric round barrow, located on the North York Moors near Rosedale Abbey, Yorkshire, in the North Riding. The barrow survives as a 65ft-diameter flat topped mound 4ft high. Excavations in 1937 revealed a 9ft long canoe and part of an oak coffin. In the coffin was the remains of a body which had been fully clothed in linen and laid on a bed of rushes, reeds or straw. Also in the coffin were three flints and part of the blade of a bronze dagger. It is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
