Long Eaton is an industrial town, located between the Rivers Trent and Erewash in the south-east of Derbyshire. Listed in Domesday as 'Aitone', Long Eaton remained a rural village until the construction of the Erewash Canal (1777-1779) and the arrival of he Midland Railway (1839), after which it grew into a major centre for lace-making and railway wagon production. Long Eaton Town Hall (1778) was designed by Joseph Pickford in the Palladian style. Harrington Mill (1887) is a traditional four-storey red lace mill. The town is within the council area of Erewash (Derbyshire).
