Linslade, Buckinghamshire

Linslade is a town in Buckinghamshire. Linslade lies on the west bank of the River Ouse, opposite Leighton Buzzard in Bedfordshire. The current town developed to the south of the original village of Linslade (now known as Old Linslade) following the opening of the Grand Junction Canal in 1800. The new development, in an area then known as Chelsea, was initially known as Chelsea New Town, then New Linslade and eventually just Linslade. From the 1840s onwards, Linslade grew steadily. The town was the basis of Linslade urban district from 1897-1965. The town is within the council area of Central Bedfordshire.
