Lindfield, Sussex
Lindfield is a village in Sussex. Lindfield first appeared as Lindefeldia, 'open land with lime trees', in a Saxon charter of AD 765. Lindfield was once part of the thriving Wealden iron industry. The ancient High Street, lined with lime trees, has over forty mediæval and post mediæval timber-framed houses. The village is within the council area of Mid Sussex (West Sussex).
