Lilla Cross, Yorkshire
Lilla Cross is a late Anglo-Saxon standing cross located on top of a prehistoric bowl barrow (Lilla Howe) on Fylingdales Moor, Yorkshire, in the North Riding. It stands at the junction of two mediæval trackways and marks the junction of four ancient parishes. The cross is mentioned in a Whitby charter of AD 1078-1120. The current cross may have replaced an earlier 7th-century cross. Lilla Howe is a bowl barrow built of large stones and earth. It is within the council area of North Yorkshire.
