Lesnes Abbey, Kent

Lesnes Abbey is a ruined abbey in Abbey Wood, Kent. The abbey was founded by Richard de Luci, Chief Justiciar of England, in 1178. The Abbey never became a large community and was closed by Cardinal Wolsey in 1525. Despite later use and alterations, Lesnes Abbey survives well with much original surviving mediæval masonry and stonework. It is a remarkably complete ground plan of a mediæval Augustinian Abbey. It is within the council area of Bexley.
Historic England Scheduled Monument 1002025.
