Lechlade, Gloucestershire
Lechlade (sometimes Lechlade-on-Thames) is a historic market town, lying on the north bank of the River Thames in the east of Gloucestershire. The town was awarded a market charter in 1210. Lechlade Priory was founded in 1252 and dissolved in 1472. Lechlade flourished as an inland port, shipping salt, cheese, wool, and stone down the Thames to London. St Lawrence Church (C of E), completed in 1476, it considered one of the four great "wool churches" of the Cotswolds. Halfpenny Bridge, connecting Gloucestershire to Berkshire, opened in 1792.
