Layton, Durham
Layton is a former mediæval village in County Durham. It is situated about one mile south-east of Sedgefield on the A177 trunk road to Stockton-on-Tees. It is visible as a series of banks, ditches, platforms, enclosures, boundary banks, boundary ditches, extractive pits and fishponds. Some of the earthworks situated to the north of the settlement have been destroyed or partially destroyed by a road cutting across the site (A177). It is within the council area of County Durham.
