Lavethan, Cornwall

Lavethan is a manor house near Blisland, Cornwall. A dwelling has stood at Lavethan for around a thousand years, close to an ancient well which still exists. Thought to mean 'house in the meadow', the current manor house, with parts dating back to the 15th century, is built upon the site of an original mediæval longhouse, with significant additions made in the 17th and 18th centuries. The estate once covered a large area that included Blisland village, but over the centuries, much of the land has been sold off. The house stands on 30 acres of land and includes the manor house with two courtyards, a long stone barn that has been converted into a performance venue, formal gardens, and a restored Victorian water garden. It is within the council area of Cornwall.
