Launcells Barton, Cornwall

Launcells Barton is a manor house near Stratton, Cornwall. In the 13th century, the Augustinian Abbey in Hartland, Devon, acquired land at Launcells. The first building at the Launcells Barton site was used as a summer residence and contemplative chapel for monks. The manor house still contains some original barrel ceilings and a mediæval doorway from this period. Following the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the property was sold in 1553 to the Chamond family. In the late 18th century, the property was leased to Reverend Cadwallader Jones. His brother-in-law, Sir John Call, designed a new Georgian extension, adding to the historic architecture. For many years the property operated as a working dairy farm until the decision was made to restore the historic property. The restoration included fully renovating the manor house, building a new events barn, and reviving the existing Mill Barn. In the 21st century, Launcells Barton became an exclusive-use wedding venue. It is within the council area of Cornwall.
