Latton Priory, Essex

Latton Priory is the remains of a former priory near North Weald Bassett, Essex. The priory was founded before 1292 as a community of Augustinian Canons Regular. It was constructed on a moated site, some of which is still water-filled. The church was rebuilt in the 14th century and together with the dormitory, refectory and cellarer's range formed a square surrounding the cloisters. The site was abandoned in 1534, just prior to the Dissolution of the Monasteries. The site subsequently became the site of a farm, now Priory Farm. The farmhouse is believed to stand on the site of the refectory. The remains of the church have been incorporated into farm buildings. The site is within the council area of Epping Forest (Essex).
